In the period from May 16 and 17, 2023, the President of the Council for advancement and oversight of the audit of the Republic of North Macedonia, Aleksandar Naumoski, and the employees of the Council’s professional service, Vlado Mitev – advisor for international cooperation and development, and Marija Kuzmanov – advisor for licensing, attended the Inaugural Meeting of the Regional Audit Quality Assurance Forum on the topic of Improving Audit Quality in the Western Balkans through Regional Cooperation, in Vienna, Austria.
The key objectives of the first regional audit quality assurance forum were:
- – To understand how the Committee of European Audit Supervisory Bodies carries out equivalence and appropriateness assessments,
- – To learn from the experience of the Slovak Republic in implementing public oversight and quality assurance systems in accordance with EU provisions,
- To share the existing experience in the countries of the Western Balkans regarding the establishment of systems for public oversight and quality assurance,
- To learn from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales about their role in relation to delegated tasks,
- To agree a training program for quality assurance inspectors,
- – To agree the work program for the next 18 months, including the frequency of meetings.
At the forum, the President of the Council, Aleksandar Naumoski, gave a presentation in which he informed the attendees about the current status of the new draft Audit Law, the changes in the section of the Council’s new competences with an emphasis on public interest entities, the quality control of public interest entities and the challenges that will follow in the direction of personnel and technical strengthening of the Council.
