The delegation of the Council, led by the President of the Council Aleksandar Naumoski and the coordinator of the professional service Zarko Kamcev, within the framework of the working meeting of the 19th “Subcommittee on Internal Market and Competition” which was held on November 12th 2024 at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, also held separate working meetings in the European Parliament in Brussels, with the Members of the European Parliament – Karlo Resler and Tomislav Sokol from the Republic of Croatia.
In the working meeting with MP Resler and his chief of staff Leon Leskovec, it was emphasized that in 2016 the Macedonian Council signed the “Cooperation Agreement” with the then “Committee for Public Oversight of Certified Auditors and Audit Companies of the Republic of Croatia”, which has now grown into the “Department for Banking, Accounting and Auditing”, within the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Croatia. At the same time, it was emphasized that this agreement is a good basis for further future cooperation in the field of auditing between the two institutions, which is still continuous and fruitful today.
The Council delegation congratulated MEP Carlo Ressler on his re-election as a member of the European Parliament in June 2024, as well as on his election as President of the “Delegation of the EU-Republic of North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee”, and emphasized the Council’s readiness to logistically support the MEP’s activities related to the work of the aforementioned EP Delegation.
In the fruitful discussion, experiences were exchanged, on the role of the “Budget Committee” and the “Budgetary Control Committee” where MP Resler is a member, and the challenges and possible cooperation of the Council with the audit regulatory bodies in the European Union member states were analyzed. At the same time, the Council delegation requested logistical support from the MP’s office for the future membership – with the status of an observer of the Council in the “Committee of European Audit Oversight Bodies” in Brussels (“CEAOB”).
At the working meeting with MP Tomislav Sokol and his Chief of Staff Ante Skugor, the Council delegation congratulated MP Sokol on his re-election as a member of the European Parliament in June 2024. The focus of the talks was on the practical experiences of the “Committee on the Internal Market and Competition”, where MP Sokol is the Chair of the Committee, which is a counterpart to the activities of the Macedonian delegation within the 19th Subcommittee on the Internal Market and Competition.
The overall agenda of the 19th Subcommittee was analyzed, with particular emphasis on the role of external audit in improving access to capital markets, in encouraging transnational listings of companies, in improving access to capital markets, in facilitating listing requirements, increased transparency and greater investor protection, in simplifying the process for mergers and acquisitions of companies, in supporting digital and technology companies, as well as in supporting green and sustainable investments.
The Members of the European Parliament stressed the importance of direct communication with the representatives of the Mission of the Republic of Macedonia to the European Union in Brussels and offered logistical assistance for the future activities of the Council in communication with the representatives of the Commissariats for Finance and Enlargement and Good Neighborly Cooperation, and in view of SUNRRSM’s request for future membership – with observer status, of the Council in the “Committee of European Audit Oversight Bodies” in Brussels (“CEAOB”) as well as for other project activities, especially with the Croatian state institutions.
