The delegation of the Council, led by the President of the Council, Aleksandar Naumoski and the coordinator of the professional service Zarko Kamcev, within the framework of the working meeting of the 19th “Subcommittee on Internal Market and Competition” which was held on November 12th 2024 at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, also held a working meeting with Ambassador Zulfi Ismaili, Head of Mission of the Republic of North Macedonia to the European Union in Brussels.
The Ambassador was informed about the activities of the Council within the Subcommittee, and within the discussion, the President of the Council emphasized that the ultimate goal of the Council is to build an audit system in the country fully aligned with international standards that ensures increased quality of audits; adherence to the principles of legality, publicity and transparency; increasing the level of trust among investors in the direction of improving the business climate in the country. The realization of the goals is improving the cooperation between the Council and Institute and harmonizing the quality control system with the EU Audit Directive and Regulation. In this sense, the need for the adoption of the new Audit Law as well as by-laws and other activities, through which the execution of the new legal competencies is guaranteed, was emphasized.
At the same time, it was emphasized that the Council expects in the next period to receive maximum support from the European Commission within the framework of the Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) for the implementation of projects related to the advancement of the auditing profession in the Republic of North Macedonia, and thus the motivation of the young academic population to acquire the title of auditor, as well as greater transparency of the financial reports of business entities. This minimizes potential risks in improving the overall business climate in the country for the purpose of attracting foreign investments.
Ambassador Ismaili stressed the importance of direct communication between the representatives of the Mission of the Republic of North Macedonia to the European Union and the state institutions in the Republic of Macedonia and offered logistical assistance to the future activities of the Council in communication with the representatives of the Commissariats for Finance and Enlargement and Good Neighborly Cooperation, and in view of Councils request for future membership – with observer status – of the Council in the “Committee of European Audit Oversight Bodies” in Brussels (“CEAOB”).
